Tourism expert Hassan Saqr, chairman of the board of directors of a tourism resort company, said the drive for Islamic tourism marketing is not limited to the travel and tourism agencies in the Kingdom or Muslim countries, but they have gained acceptance by the international tourist companies targeting Muslim tourists.

One of the major international tourism companies, for instance, lately launched a website for halal tourism in English.

The website focuses on international tourist centers, airports, supermarkets, tourism offers on the Internet and restaurants offering halal, in addition to how to reach mosques close to the location where the tourist wants to go.

Saudi tourism expert Ibrahim Al-Rashed expects the halal tourism to witness significant growth in the Kingdom and the Gulf region.

Al-Rashed pointed out that this kind of tourism recorded $60 billion business last year around the world in the current year.

He hoped that the halal sector would register 30 percent growth thanks to the Saudi and Gulf tourists turning to international tourist markets instead of the traditional Arab markets in the region, which are still in the grip of political turmoil.

He said the halal tourism packages devoid of Islamically unlawful activities or drinks have been a hit with Saudi families.

Abdullah Al-Safi, director of one of the travel agencies providing halal tourism packages, said halal tourism, one of the latest innovative products of the tourism industry, which serves practicing Muslim families, abides by the Shariah regulations, books hotels where alcohol is not supplied, and swimming pools and spas are separate for men and women.

The tour operators also take care that flight bookings are in planes that do not serve alcoholic beverages or pork on board, and announce prayer times, and provide copies of the Holy Qur’an at seat pockets and allows separation of male and female travelers.

He said Islamic tourism accounted for 10 percent of the international tourism market and is poised for fast growth.

The tourism industry in the Middle East is also expected to achieve a fast growth of 20 percent a year, according to one recent report.

While Saudi Arabia is the top exporter of tourists with a total annual spending of $6.7 billion followed by the UAE with $4.9 billion, the Saudi average spending is $1,700 for a single trip abroad, according to the World Tourism Organization.

Turkey, Malaysia, Dubai, Jordan, Tunisia and several other countries are striving to attract Muslim tourists the world over as a direct reaction to growing Islamophobia in the West, he said.

نور اليا : تبعد عن العاصمه كولمبو 190 كم وتشتهر المدينه بالشلالات والبحيرات الجميله وجبالها الخضراء التي تكسوها مزارع الشاي . ويوجد بها محميه طبيعيه بها جبل شديد الارتفاع . الواقف على قمته لايشاهد الارض . لذلك يطلق عليه نهاية العالم . وطقس المدينه بارد خاصة في الليل وينصح بلبس الملابس الثقيله .
بنتوته : سميت بهذا الاسهم نسبة الى الرحاله العربي الشهير ابن بطوطة وتبعد عن العاصمه 60 كم وبها العديد من الفنادق والمنتجعات الجميلة . ويقصدها السياح لجمال شواطئها.
ناغمبو : تبعد 37 كم من كولومبو في سريلانكا. تعتمد على السياحة وصناعة صيد الأسماك ويوجد بها الكثير من بقايا الاستعمار ومنها القلعه الهولنديه التي بنيت عام 1672 م وتشتهر بالشواطئ الجميله ويفضل السياح السكن في المدينه قبل العوده لاوطانهم لقربها من المطار.

Ecotourism

Ecotourism is a form of tourism involving visiting fragile, pristine, and relatively undisturbed natural areas, intended as a low-impact and often small scale alternative to standard commercial (mass) tourism. Its purpose may be to educate the traveler, to provide funds forecological conservation, to directly benefit the economic development and political empowerment of local communities, or to foster respect for different cultures and for human rights. Since the 1980s ecotourism has been considered a critical endeavor by environmentalists, so that future generations may experience destinations relatively untouched by human intervention.^[1] Several university programs use this description as the working definition of ecotourism.^[2]

Generally, ecotourism deals with living parts of the natural environments.^[3] Ecotourism focuses on socially responsible travel, personal growth, and environmental sustainability. Ecotourism typically involves travel to destinations where flora, fauna, and cultural heritage are the primary attractions. Ecotourism is intended to offer tourists insight into the impact of human beings on the environment, and to foster a greater appreciation of our natural habitats.

Responsible ecotourism programs include those that minimize the negative aspects of conventional tourism on the environment and enhance the cultural integrity of local people. Therefore, in addition to evaluating environmental and cultural factors, an integral part of ecotourism is the promotion of recycling, energy efficiency, water conservation, and creation of economic opportunities for local communities.^[4] For these reasons, ecotourism often appeals to advocates of environmental and social responsibility.

The term 'ecotourism', like 'sustainable tourism', is considered by many to be an oxymoron. Tourism in general depends upon and increases air transportation, contributing significantly to greenhouse gas emissions from combustion placed high into the stratospherewhere they immediately contribute to the heat trapping phenomenon behind global warming and climate change. Additionally, "the overall effect of sustainable tourism is negative, where, like ecotourism, philanthropic aspirations mask hard-nosed immediate self-interest."

Halal Friendly Tourism

Every traveller, when moving out from his country of residence and goes out to a foreign place, he/she has some basic needs to be fulfilled. Apart from these basic needs, there could be other needs which, if fulfilled, will enhance his/her experience of travel and would make them feel comfortable and at home. Based on the above statement, when Muslims (attention of non-muslims are also required on this point) move out from their original place and move out to a foreign place, they have some basic requirements. The minimal basic requirement for a practising Muslim is Food and Prayer facilities, without these two, a muslim might not feel comfortable journeying to that destiny or even may cancel his or her trip. It is integral part of Muslims daily life. Therefore, following basic requirement is there for a Muslim traveller:

1. Halal Food with full Assurance (Halal Certified Food by a competent Halal Authority)
2. Prayer Hall in the Hotel or building Premises
3. Qibla direction pasted or signified in the room to ascertain the direction of prayer
4. Prayer mats
5. Local Prayer timings list
6. Copy of Quran
7. Ramadan related Services

These mentioned services could be the basic need for a Muslim traveller. Hotels which provide all these services or some of these services can be called as Halal Friendly Hotels.

Apart from these services, there are other services which make the experience of the traveller better. Like if the Hotel reception has list of nearby mosques or city mosques for Friday prayers with timing. The reception could also keep the list of Halal certified restaurants in the vicinity or a Halal guide which covers the list Halal certified restaurants in the city and other places of interest for Muslims ( Muslim Culture or Art Museum, a beach with no nudity !!!) In similar context, Halal Friendly Medical destination may be having all or few Halal services. As in Hotel, in hospitals also Food and Prayer facilities would be key factor to be Halal Friendly Hospital. Extra care is needed here for female patients, only female doctors can do checkups and treatments where touch of body parts is required. This practice shall be implemented as much as possible for the comfort of patients.

Observing closely we can see that lot of services are mentioned which will attract non-muslims also due to simplicity and tranquillity. Like in a hotel there would be family friendly atmosphere, or in Hospitals women’s privacy is safe guarded to a greater extent. Values behind Halal is also attracting non-Muslim consumers worldwide.

Other Halal Friendly Services

On the same concept mentioned above any facility can be a Halal Friendly facility. A shop which has few of the Halal friendly services, for example, a small clean space for prayer, where customers can pray if the times comes, can be called a Halal Friendly Shop. A shopping mall where prayer hall is provided, or there are significantly large number of shops inside selling Muslim related products Hijabs, Abayas, Niqabs, Halal certified products etc can be flaunted as Halal Friendly Shopping Mall. This concept is gigantic as it can be applied to stadiums, cruise ships, buses and trains, roads also!!!!
